The Intermittent Pilot Ignition (IPI) system is an electronic ignition technology designed for gas fireplaces and heaters. It does not require a constantly burning pilot light to ignite the gas. Instead, the pilot light only activates when needed. This improves energy efficiency because the pilot light is off when the fireplace is not in use.

When you turn on the fireplace, the IPI system ignites the pilot light electronically. This allows it to safely ignite the main burner. The IPI system conserves energy and reduces gas consumption, leading to lower utility bills. Many IPI systems can also be operated with a remote control for added convenience.
