Gas Requirements for Your Fire Table:

If you're considering adding a touch of warmth and ambiance to your outdoor space with an fire table, it's essential to understand the gas requirements for safe and efficient operation. Whether you're opting for liquid propane or natural gas, this guide provides detailed specifications to ensure a seamless experience.

Liquid Propane Gas Requirements:

Your fire pit doesn't come with a propane tank, so you'll need to provide one. Follow these specifications when purchasing your propane tank:

Specifications:

The 20 lb propane gas supply cylinder must comply with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) specifications for propane gas cylinders.
Manifold Pressure: For plumbed-in liquid propane installation, use a regulator.

Supply Pressure:

  • Minimum: 8.0” W.C. / 1/3 PSI
  • Nominal: 11.0" W.C. / 1/2 PSI
  • Maximum: 14.0” W.C. / 1/2 PSI

Pressure Regulator: Use the supplied gas pressure regulator and hose assembly to maintain uniform gas pressure in the manifold. Cylinder Specification: The propane cylinder must be approximately 12 inches in diameter, 18 inches high, with a maximum fuel capacity of 20 lbs. (5 gallons). Filler Valve: Ensure your propane tank has an updated filler valve to comply with safety regulations.

Natural Gas Requirements:

If you prefer the convenience of natural gas for your Outdoor Plus fire table, adhere to the following requirements:

Requirements:

Ensure a conveniently positioned shut-off valve with easy access in the gas service supplying the fire pit. The shut-off valve MUST NOT be inside the appliance. Always check the rating plate to confirm the fire pit is manufactured for the specific gas type you are using.

Installation and Safety Guidelines:

Conform to local codes or, in their absence, adhere to relevant national codes such as ANSI Z223.1, NFPA 54, CSA B149.1, or CSA B146.2. Natural gas connections must be performed by a licensed contractor or a representative from the local gas company.

Pressure Testing:

If installed with a fixed fuel piping system and equipped with an appliance gas pressure regulator, disconnect the fire pit and its individual shut-off valve during any pressure testing exceeding 1/2 psi. Isolate the fire pit from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shut-off valve during any pressure testing at or below 1/2 psi. Ensure a safe and enjoyable experience by following these gas requirements and installation guidelines for your Outdoor Plus fire table. Always prioritize safety and compliance for a worry-free outdoor living space.

Safe Placement and Ventilation Guidelines for Your Fire Pit

Ensuring the proper placement and ventilation of your fire pit is crucial for both safety and optimal performance. Follow these guidelines to create a secure and enjoyable outdoor space.

Selecting a Location:

  • Avoid Enclosed Spaces: Never place the fire pit in enclosed areas such as buildings, garages, or sealed overhead structures.
  • Clearance from Windows and Vents: Keep the fire pit away from windows or vents that can be opened into your home.
  • Distance from Combustible Materials: Maintain a safe distance from overhead combustible materials like patio covers, ensuring they are not overheated.
  • Clear Surroundings: Keep the area around the fire pit clean from flammable materials such as liquids, mops, rags, or cleaning fluids.

Ventilation and Gas Safety:

  • Vents at the Base: Do not block vents located near the base of the fire pit to prevent gas buildup in case of a leak.
  • Avoid Excessive Wetness: Do not place the appliance where it can get excessively wet. If any part has been underwater, do not use it. Call a qualified service technician for inspection and replacement.
  • Proper Clearance from Combustibles: Maintain clearances to combustible materials:
  • Sides and back: 48 inches (122 cm) measured from the side
  • Top: 96 inches (244 cm) measured from the hearth

Ventilation Requirements:

  • Fresh Air Flow: Ensure proper ventilation by allowing fresh air to pass through installed vents. Failure to do so may lead to fire or explosion.
  • Solid Platform: Place the fire pit on a flat and stable surface, preferably concrete, to allow airflow through the vents at the bottom. Never obstruct the vents.

Placement for Natural Gas:

  • Permanent Location: If using natural gas, consider locating the fire pit permanently to hide the gas line. If burying the gas line, use a gas riser about 10 inches above the ground.
  • Gas Valve Location: Install a gas valve outside the fire pit to shut off gas when needed.
  • Professional Installation: For gas line installation, it is strongly recommended to hire a licensed contractor for proper setup and safety measures.

By adhering to these placement and ventilation guidelines, you can create a safe, well-ventilated, and enjoyable environment around your fire pit. Always prioritize safety and follow the recommendations outlined in the manual for a worry-free outdoor experience.

Guidelines for Placing Decorative Stone in Your Fire Pit

Once you have successfully completed the plumbing installation for your fire pit, the next step involves adding the decorative filler material. Follow these guidelines for a safe and visually appealing fire pit experience:

Choose Suitable Filler Material:

  • Opt for filler materials such as lava rock, decorative stone, or glass that are explicitly rated for use with fire. Ensure that the chosen material can withstand the heat generated by the fire pit.

Personalized Placement:

  • The type and arrangement of filler material, whether lava rock, decorative stone, or glass, are entirely your choice based on personal preferences and aesthetics.

Consider Safety:

  • Confirm that the chosen filler material will not impact the operation of the fire pit. It should not interfere with the burner's functionality or gas flow.

Maximum Thickness Above Burner:

  • Place the filler material on the burner but restrict the thickness to no more than 1 inch above the burner. This ensures proper gas flow and prevents any impediments.

Avoid Excessive Filler Material:

  • Refrain from adding an excessive amount of filler material, as this may obstruct gas flow, leading to gas buildup. In extreme cases, excessive filler material could pose a risk of explosion.

By following these guidelines, you can enhance the visual appeal of your fire pit with decorative filler material while prioritizing safety and efficient gas flow. Always choose materials rated for fire use and adhere to the specified thickness limits to enjoy a secure and aesthetically pleasing fire pit experience.

CAUTION REGARDING PROPANE APPLICATIONS:

Fireplace Doors Online strongly advises against the use of fiberglass, sand, or fire media with any propane fire or fire and water feature. Liquid Propane (LP) is denser than air, and the introduction of fire glass can cause the gas to accumulate in the fire pit enclosure and burn area, creating back pressure. This poses an extremely hazardous situation that can lead to injury or loss of life. For safety reasons, it is crucial to refrain from using such materials in propane applications.

CLEANING, MAINTENANCE & STORAGE GUIDELINES CLEANING:

Before the initial use and at least annually, inspect and clean the appliance, preferably by a qualified field service person. Periodically check and clean the burner using a soft wire brush to remove dirt and debris, ensuring optimal performance. To clean the fire pit, let it cool completely, spray the enclosure with water(avoiding the burner and igniter), and wipe it clean with a dry cloth. After cooling, cover the fire pit with a full-length cover to protect it from weather and environmental pollutants.

MAINTENANCE:

  • Regularly inspect the hose connecting the propane gas cylinder for cracks or damage.
  • Natural gas hook-ups should be serviced and inspected by qualified installers only.
  • Periodically check and clean burners to prevent blockage by spiders or insects, reducing the risk of fires from behind the valve panel.
  • Any removed protective device must be replaced before operating the appliance.

ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE NOTES:

  • Inspect the fuel supply connection for signs of leakage before each use.
  • Do not attempt to repair or replace any part of the fire pit; have a qualified technician perform all service to avoid voiding the warranty.

STORAGE:

  • Turn off the gas at the source when the fire pit is not in use.
  • If storing the appliance indoors, ensure it is disconnected from its fuel supply.
  • Store propane cylinders outdoors in a well-ventilated area, away from children, and ensure disconnected cylinders have tightly installed threaded valve plugs.
  • Avoid storing cylinders in enclosed spaces like buildings or garages.
  • To extend the fire pit's life, cover it when not in use, ensuring sufficient cooling time before installing the storage cover. Note that damage to the storage cover due to heat or burns is not covered by the warranty.
