Ignition System
- A Millivolt control ignition system uses a standing pilot light that remains on continuously. It is powered by a thermocouple, which generates a small voltage from the heat of the pilot flame. This system does not require external electricity and can operate during power outages. It typically requires manual operation through a switch or thermostat.
- An Electronic control ignition system does not have a standing pilot light. It ignites the burner only when needed and requires external electricity to function. It is more energy-efficient since no gas is consumed when idle. This system is often automatic, controlled by a thermostat or remote, and includes safety features like auto-shutoff.

Venting:
6" B-Vent 48" Length (6BV48) (2 Pieces) – This is a 48-inch long section of the B-Vent pipe. It is crucial because it forms the main structure of the venting system, carrying combustion gases safely out of the building.
6" B-Vent 0/12-6/12 Adjustable Flashing (6BVF) – Flashing is used where the vent passes through the roof to prevent water from leaking into the building. This adjustable flashing is designed for roofs with a pitch of 0/12 to 6/12 (a shallow slope), making it essential for sealing the vent and protecting the roof from weather damage.
6" B-Vent Quick Grip Firestop/Support (6BVFSPU) – This part serves two purposes. First, it acts as a firestop, preventing fire from spreading through gaps where the vent pipe passes through floors or walls. Second, it provides support to the vent pipe, ensuring stability and correct installation, especially in multi-story setups.
6" B-Vent High Wind Cap (6BVVTH) – The wind cap is placed on the top of the vent and is designed to prevent strong winds from disrupting the venting process or causing backdrafts. It also prevents debris, rain, or birds from entering the vent, ensuring safe and efficient vent operation.
Importance of the System
Together, these components are vital for:
- Safe venting of combustion gases, which is critical for preventing carbon monoxide buildup inside the building.
- Weather protection, ensuring that water and wind do not interfere with the vent system or the roof.
- Fire safety, as the firestop prevents the spread of fire.
- System stability, ensuring that the vent remains properly aligned and functional over time.

How to Install the Vertical Vent Kit
- Measure and Plan: Start by measuring the vertical path from your fireplace to the roof. This ensures you have the correct pipe length and components for your installation.
- Install the Pipe Sections: Begin at the fireplace and work upward, connecting each section of B-Vent pipe using the quick-lock system. This twist-lock mechanism ensures a tight, secure fit with minimal effort.
- Install Firestop/Support: At each floor or ceiling penetration, install the firestop bracket to maintain fire safety standards and provide structural support for the vent pipe.
- Add Roof Flashing: As the pipe exits the roof, install the adjustable flashing to create a watertight seal and prevent leaks. This flashing adapts to your roof’s pitch for a snug, protective fit.
- Complete with the Wind Cap: Top off the vent system with the high-wind cap, designed to prevent backdrafts and protect against rain, debris, and animals entering the vent.
When installing a gas fireplace, proper venting is critical for safety and efficiency. Our vertical vent kit ensures safe removal of combustion gases, while protecting your home from backdrafts, water intrusion, and fire hazards. With premium components, you can rest easy knowing your venting system is built to last and meet the highest safety standards.
