A complete and specially designed package, the DuraVent 8" DuraTech Multistorey Kit is intended to install a chimney system in multistory buildings efficiently. This kit contains several necessary parts to guarantee a safe, long-lasting, and code-compliant chimney connection for your 8" DuraTech system in a multistory building. Essential elements included in this all-inclusive kit include:

1. 8" DuraTech Chimney Cap: The chimney cap serves as a defense barrier, keeping debris, weather, and other outside elements out of the chimney while allowing for adequate ventilation.

2. 8" DuraTech Storm Collar: The storm collar fortifies the chimney's barrier against inclement weather by adding another degree of protection and creating an airtight seal around it.

3. 8" DuraTech Attic Insulation Shield: This shield prevents heat from entering the attic and reaching combustible materials. It is made explicitly for multistory installations. It guarantees both safety and adherence to insulation specifications.

4. 8" DuraTech Firestop Radiation Shield: Protecting adjacent flammable materials from excessive heat transfer and following safety regulations are two critical functions of the firestop radiation shield.

5. 8" DuraTech Finishing Collar with Adapter: The finishing collar, which combines aesthetics and functionality, ensures that the chimney penetration into ceilings appears polished, resulting in a smooth transition and improving the overall picture.

6. 8" DuraTech Flashing: By acting as a barrier against weathering, the flashing keeps water from penetrating the area surrounding the chimney, enhancing overall waterproofing and maintaining the structural integrity of the chimney system.

7. 8" DuraTech Wall Strap: The wall strap guarantees a safe connection and adherence to safety regulations by giving the chimney extra support and stability as it travels through vertical walls.

8. 8" DuraTech Ceiling Support Box: The ceiling support box, designed explicitly for multistory installations, helps the chimney system pass through ceilings while providing structural stability and support.

The DuraVent 8" DuraTech Multistorey Kit offers a thorough and safe solution when installing a chimney in a multistory building. This kit's integration of protective, insulating, and supporting components demonstrates DuraVent's dedication to providing a dependable and compliant chimney system suitable for multistory establishments.

How to Install a DuraTech Chimney Pipe Kit in a Multistorey Home?

Ensuring a safe and efficient multi-story chimney installation is crucial for your home. By following these steps, you not only comply with building codes but also protect your investment and create a secure environment for your family. The National Fire Protection Association Standard #211 provides the necessary guidelines for multi-story buildings, requiring a fire resistance rating of at least one hour for buildings less than four stories and two hours for taller structures. The DuraTech Multistorey Kit is available in 6-Inches, 7-Inches and 8-Inches.

Multi-Story Chimney Installation Guide

  1. Place the Appliance: Position your appliance as instructed by the manufacturer, ensuring the flue outlet aligns between the rafters or joists above.
  2. Frame Support Opening: Mark the center point for the flue outlet on the ceiling using a plumb bob. Cut and frame a square opening for the Support Box.
  3. Install the Support Box: Ensure the Support Box extends at least 2 inches below the ceiling. Level it and secure it with at least 12 nails or screws. Attach the Trim Collar to the framing with the provided screws.
  4. Frame Floor Openings: For each floor the chimney passes through, frame openings for the Firestop Radiation Shield and Attic Insulation Shield. Use a plumb bob for precise alignment.
  5. Cut Roof Opening: Make a roof opening 4 inches larger than the chimney’s outer diameter, maintaining a 2-inch clearance from combustible materials.
  6. Install Firestop Radiation Shields: These shields are essential for fire safety. Install one at each floor level where the chimney passes through, including the attic.
  7. Assemble Chimney Sections: Insert the chimney section into the Support Box, twist-locking it in place. Reinforce with short screws if needed.
  8. Install Attic Insulation Shield: Place this shield where the chimney enters the attic to protect against insulation contact.
  9. Add Spray Foam Insulation Shield (if using spray foam): Install it similarly to the Support Box. Use non-combustible insulation if necessary.
  10. Attach Flashing: Position the Flashing over the chimney, ensuring it maintains a vertical position with 2 inches of clearance. Secure it to the roof with roofing nails and seal thoroughly.
  11. Finish the Top: Apply a high-temperature sealant where the Storm Collar meets the chimney. Twist-lock the Chimney Cap in place, ensuring it’s secure for chimney maintenance and weather protection.

By following these steps, you not only meet safety standards but also ensure your chimney installation is durable, efficient, and built to last.
