3. 6" DuraTech Attic Insulation Shield: The attic insulation shield prevents heat transfer to explosive objects in the attic, guaranteeing safety and adherence to insulation regulations.

4. 6" DuraTech Finishing Collar with Adapter: The finishing collar is a practical and aesthetically pleasing addition to the overall design. It guarantees a seamless changeover and a polished appearance when the chimney penetrates ceilings.

5. 6" DuraTech Flashing: The flashing acts as a weatherproof barrier to stop water from penetrating the area around the chimney, enhancing overall waterproofing and maintaining the structural integrity of the chimney system.

6. 6" DuraTech Ceiling Support Box: Besides facilitating the chimney system's passage through ceilings and providing stability and structural support, the ceiling support box ensures a secure connection and adherence to safety guidelines.

7. 6" DuraTech Trim Collar for Round Support Box: While maintaining structural integrity, this trim collar gives the round support box a polished appearance, which enhances the chimney installation's overall aesthetic appeal.

How to Install a DuraTech Chimney Pipe Kit through an Attic?

When it comes to installing a DuraTech Attic Insulation Shield Kit, making the right choice ensures both safety and efficiency for your home. By following these detailed steps, you can achieve a reliable installation that not only meets industry standards but also provides peace of mind for years to come. The DuraTech Attic Insulation Shield Kit is available in 6-Inches, 7-Inches and 8-Inches.

Why Choose Ceiling-Supported Chimney Pipe?

  • Superior Support: A ceiling-supported chimney pipe provides enhanced stability, making it perfect for multi-story installations. With robust support systems, you can trust that your chimney will remain secure and functional.
  • Versatility: This type of chimney pipe is designed to work with a variety of appliances and can adapt to different ceiling structures, ensuring a perfect fit for your home.
  • Efficient Insulation: The system allows for proper insulation around the chimney, reducing heat loss and enhancing the overall efficiency of your heating appliance.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

  1. Place Your Appliance: Position the appliance according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring the flue outlet collar is ideally located between the rafters or joists. This strategic placement is crucial for optimal performance.
  2. Frame the Support Opening: Use a plumb bob to mark the center of the flue outlet on the ceiling. Cut a square hole for the Support Box and frame it level. This precision will ensure a secure and stable installation.
  3. Install the Support Box: Secure the square support box so that its face protrudes at least 2 inches below the ceiling. Use a minimum of three 8-penny nails or 1-1/2” #8 wood screws per side for a strong attachment.
  4. Frame Openings: Create openings in the ceilings or floors above the Support Box to accommodate the Firestop Radiation Shield and Attic Insulation Shield. This ensures that your chimney system maintains safety and efficiency.
  5. Cut the Roof Opening: Cut an opening in the roof directly above the chimney, at least 4 inches larger than the chimney's outside diameter. This clearance is essential for safety, allowing for proper airflow and preventing heat buildup.
  6. Install the Firestop Radiation Shield: For multi-story installations, a Firestop Radiation Shield is essential at each floor penetration above the Support Box. This additional layer protects your home and complies with safety standards.
  7. Assemble Chimney Sections: Lower the first chimney section into the Support Box, ensuring it twist-locks securely. While sheet metal screws are optional, they can reinforce the connection if desired.
  8. Install the Attic Insulation Shield: If your chimney system includes a Support Box, it can double as an Insulation Shield. Ensure the height is appropriate for any current or future insulation needs.
  9. Add the Spray Foam Insulation Shield: Whenever spray foam is used to insulate, a Spray Foam Insulation Shield is necessary. This shield can be installed with minimal fasteners while allowing for proper insulation coverage.
  10. Attach Flashing: Secure the chimney sections above the roof, then install flashing to create a weatherproof seal. Ensure the chimney remains vertical, maintaining a 2-inch clearance from combustibles.
  11. Finish the Top: Apply a high-temperature sealant around the chimney where the Storm Collar meets, and secure the collar tightly to prevent leaks. Finally, attach the Chimney Cap, ensuring it is secure yet removable for cleaning.

By investing in a ceiling-supported chimney pipe installation, you're choosing a solution that prioritizes safety, efficiency, and reliability. Follow these steps to ensure a successful installation, and enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing your chimney system is built to last. With proper care and maintenance, your chimney will serve you well for years to come. Make the smart choice today for a safer, more efficient home!
