11 Inch Diameter Flat Firestop Spacer For HHT SL1100 and SL400 Series Pipe | FS538
A good ventilation system is necessary for a properly functioning gas appliance, and using vent pipe support pieces will help keep your home safe. The Hearth & Home Technologies Flat Firestop Spacer provides a layer of safety for the SL1100 and SL400 Series vent systems and your home. The 11" diameter spacer will work with your firestop, providing a non-combustible safety barrier between your vent piping and the combustible materials.
A flat firestop spacer is a component used in construction and building design to enhance fire safety and prevent the spread of fire and smoke through openings in walls, ceilings, or floors. These spacers are specifically designed to maintain the integrity of fire-rated barriers, such as fire-resistant walls and floors, by sealing openings created for pipes, conduits, cables, or other penetrations. Here's an introduction to flat firestop spacers:
1. Purpose: The primary purpose of a flat firestop spacer is to ensure that penetrations through fire-rated barriers do not compromise the fire resistance of these barriers. It achieves this by forming a seal around the penetration, preventing the passage of flames, smoke, and hot gases during a fire event.
2. Design: Flat firestop spacers are typically flat, thin, and made from fire-resistant materials such as intumescent compounds, firestop sealants, or fire-resistant boards. They come in various sizes and configurations to accommodate different types of penetrations, including pipes, cables, and ducts.
3. Installation: Installation of a flat firestop spacer involves placing it around the penetration, ensuring a tight and secure fit. When exposed to heat during a fire, the spacer may expand or react to form a fire-resistant seal, effectively blocking the passage of fire and smoke.
4. Fire Ratings: Firestop spacers are often rated for their ability to withstand fire for a specified period, such as one, two, or three hours. This rating indicates the amount of time the firestop system can maintain its integrity during a fire, allowing occupants to evacuate and firefighters to control the blaze.
5. Compliance: Flat firestop spacers should meet local building codes and fire safety regulations to ensure compliance with safety standards. Manufacturers often provide documentation and testing reports to demonstrate their products' effectiveness in maintaining fire resistance.
6. Applications: Flat firestop spacers are used in various building types, including commercial, industrial, and residential structures, where fire-rated barriers are crucial for occupant safety. They are commonly used around penetrations for pipes, electrical conduits, HVAC ducts, and communication cables.
7. Maintenance: Regular maintenance and inspection of firestop systems, including spacers, are essential to ensure their ongoing effectiveness. Damaged or deteriorated firestop systems should be promptly repaired or replaced.
Flat firestop spacers play a critical role in fire protection and safety in buildings by helping to compartmentalize fires, slow down their spread, and protect the lives and property of occupants. It's essential to consult with professionals who are knowledgeable about fire safety and building codes to ensure that the appropriate firestop systems, including spacers, are correctly installed in your specific construction project.
