Painted in black-water based paint, this will help to prevent rust, which the paint may be chipped or imperfect. This will burn off in the fireplace after a season of use. If an immediate finished look is desired, then stove polish can be applied before use, and yearly to keep the fireback looking new. This fireback is hand made in the USA.
