Cast Stone Fireplace Mantels

How do I measure for my fireplace mantel?
In order to get the best fit for your fireplace mantel, we will need to have some measurements. The fireplace facing is the material that surrounds your fireplace. Most fireplaces have some type of facing - be it tile, granite, stone, or brick. Measure from the bottom to the top of the facing (height). Measure from the left to the right side of the facing (width). Measure how far the facing juts out from the wall (depth). Now we have Width x Height x Depth.

What supplies will I need to install my mantel?

1. One 50 pound bag of white thinset (Premium thinset for stone and tile). (Mix thinset to a thick consistency, follow manufacturer's instructions precisely)
2. Two 5 gallon buckets - 1 for warm water, 1 for thinset
3. 1/2" mixing drill
4. Mixing blade for drill- (to mix thinset)
5. 1/2" notched trowel
6. Rubber floats - (installation of thinset)
7. Sponges - (to wipe off thinset)
8. 4 foot level
9. Construction adhesive - (E.G. Liquid Nails and Bondo epoxy adhesive)
10. Tree bow saw- (to cut legs as needed)
11. Mounting brace - (to support of the top shelf)
12. 2 - 5" x 3/8" size lag bolts

Can I paint my mantel?
Yes. You'll need to wait four weeks after installation to do so, though. This will give the mantel time to cure. First you'll need to put a layer of Kilz sandable primer on. Then you can use a water based latex paint, but you will want to dilute it a bit. Using this method you can paint your fireplace mantel any color you'd like, or even do a faux finish treatment to it.

How do I clean my mantel?
Warm water and a non abrasive soap will do the trick!

Will these mantels work for any fireplace?
Unfortunately, no. We do not recommend the use of the stone mantels with vent free fireplaces or vented, heat-circulating fireplaces that do not have a blower system to direct heat away from the face of the fireplace. Excessive heat may cause hairline cracking.

How are these mantels made?
Molds are made from wood models into which a lightweight gypsum and fiberglass reinforced concrete mixture is poured. Your mantel will have sharply defined and very clean look that is sure to enhance your fireplace and room.
